Two Beach Experiences
Jennifer shares thoughts and photos from a recent beach day and recalls another memorable trip which she turned into a video poem.
1.
The water was freezing but that didn’t stop Kade from jumping into the ocean. We had traveled south to see our parents and decided to take a day trip an hour away to Myrtle Beach. The sun was bright. A breeze softened the air. We stepped along the boardwalk. Laid on a blanket and let our faces reach for the sky. Ate greasy foods (regretted it). We talked and we laughed. We were together.

It was summer 2014. The first trip we took after my granny had passed; our hearts left in disarray. My mom, auntie and I went down to Destin, FL. I drove. We listened to Avery Sunshine and sang “I do love you but you make me so mad, make me mad, make me mad…” Repeatedly. We went to the movies and watched Chadwick Boseman play James Brown. We sat in the sand. Shopped without worry. We laughed knowing that Granny was right there with us.
